Iman Taghavi

University of British Columbia

Iman Taghavi received his Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic in collaboration with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign, Urbana, USA (2012). He developed the first CAD tool for multiple quantum well transistor lasers. Dr. Taghavi joined the Center of Optics, Photonics, and Lasers (Amirkabir University of Technology) (2012-2015) as a Research Scientists and visiting assistant professor. He also received his second Ph.D. degree (with emphasis on integrated optics) from the Georgia Institute of Technology (2019) where, in collaboration with the Institute of Electronics and Nanotechnology, he led a team developing the world-record small electro-optic polymer modulator. He has won numerous awards including the Merit Fellowship (North Carolina State University) and IEEE distinguished thesis Award. He joined the University of British Columbia and Quantum Matter Institute in Dec 2019 where he is working on the fabrication of hybrid nanostructures for optical signal processing and ultra-high-speed communication systems. His current research is on hybrid material platform for nanofabrication of photonic and semiconductor devices, lasers, and modulators. Dr. Taghavi is an active member of the Optical Society of America, American Institute of Physics and IEEE. He has received various invitations to international conferences and research institutes and served as invited TPC in Quantum Communications & Information Technology Committee and invited reviewer at SPIE Nanophotonics journal. He is the author and co-author of over 30 technical papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
