Nelson Muga was born in Mogadouro, Portugal. He graduated Physics at the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2002, and received a master's degree in Applied Physics, in 2006, at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Engineering, in 2011, at Aveiro University for research on polarization-effects in fiber-optic communication systems. He has been a lecturer at the Physics Department of the University of Aveiro since 2016, where he teaches courses related to optics, optoelectronics, and photonics. Since 2018, He is a senior researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Aveiro, where he has participated in more than 20 R&D research projects, developing expertise in the field of high-speed optical communication systems and quantum secure optical communications. His current main research interests include coherent optical systems and quantum communications. Dr. Muga is a Member of the Optical Society - OSA.
