Prof. Ms. Francisca G. Caballero is Research Professor at the Spanish National Centre for Metals Research (CENIM-CSIC) and Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Research at Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP) since October 2014. She obtained her M.Sc. in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1994 and joined CENIM-CSIC in Madrid the same year, where she worked on solid-solid phase transformation of steels. For this research she was awarded her Ph.D. degree by the Complutense University of Madrid in 1999, which was partially carried out at the University of Leeds (1996) and the University of Cambridge (1997-1999) in UK. From 1997 to 2000, she worked as a research associate at the University of Cambridge in UK. She returned to CENIM in 2000 as a research associate and in 2003 she obtained a Ramón y Cajal fellowship to work on the design and development of advanced steels. She was appointed Tenured Scientist in 2005, Senior Scientist in 2009 and Research Professor in 2018. Additionally, between September 2013 and October 2014 she has been the Deputy Director of Science at the Spanish National Centre for Metals Research (CENIM). She has co-authored over 175 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 2 licensed priority patents on advanced steels, and has held a visiting scientist position at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge-TN-USA since 2004. In addition, Dr. Caballero is member of the Phase Transformation Committee of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) of USA, of the Board of Review of the journal Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, and of the Editorial Board of the journals Materials Science and Technology and International Journal of Metals. Moreover, she is member of different Evaluation Committees including the H2020 Environment and Resources Program and the Research Fund for Coal and Steel Program of the European Commission, and the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences Program of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA). Prof. Caballero’s current research interests involve both applied and fundamental aspects of the design, processing and characterization of nanocrystalline steels.
