MBBS (1975) & MD Medicine (1979) from JN Medical College, Aligarh, India; Diploma Cardiology (1987) Hammersmith Hospital, London; Interventional Cardiology& Electrophysiology Fellow at FlindersMedical Centre, Adelaide (1997), Dr. Luqman continued his interest in electrophysiology & device implants through fellowships in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan and later when introduced in Brunei from 2007. He has implanted more than 500 pacing devices (pacemakers, ICD, CRT, and ILR) including the latest devices like leadless pacemaker. Currently he is also involved with simple and complex ablations including atrial fibrillation and VT, and also participated in Watchman implants and lead extractions. Besides more than 25 years of experience in clinical cardiology, Dr. Luqman has been perfrming cardiac CT (since 2007) and cardiac MRI (since 2012) in Brunei Darussalam after receiving advance training in these areas through workshops and attachments in Malaysia, Australia and Germany. He has performed more than 3000 cardiac CT and over 400 adult CMR. Education and research are close to his heart. Diploma with distinction in Health Informatics from University of Otago, New Zealand in 2001 helped him develop better cardiology services in Brunei through his capacity as head of cardiology until 2014. Tele-cardiology, patient database, nurse led programs for heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation; conducting audits & trials; publishing guidelines etc. are some of them. He has conducted ECG workshops every year for 15 years, lectured locally & abroad, organised workshops, symposiums and tutored medical students. He has more than 30 publications, including in journals like PACE , BMJ and Circulation. In recognition of his work & contribution to the development of cardiology in Brunei Darussalam, he was conferred PIKB (Excellent Service Medal) and SMB (True to service) awards by the Sultan of Brunei.
