Frank Werner studied Mathematics from 1975–1980 and graduated from the Technical University Magdeburg with honors. He defended his Ph.D. thesis on the solution of special scheduling problems in 1984 with summa cum laude and his habilitation thesis in 1989. In 1992, he received a grant from the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation. He currently works as an extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Mathematics of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany). He is an editor of one monograph and an author of three further books, as well as of more than 250 publications in international journals and conference proceedings. He is on the Editorial Board of 16 journals and was a member of the Program Committee of more than 55 international conferences. His research interests are Operations Research, Combinatorial Optimization and Scheduling.
