Stephen Palm is the lead author of 4 research papers on blowing snow properties over Antarctica using satellite lidar and a lead developer of the CATS-ISS level 1 data products and processing system. He is a member of CATS Science Team and a member of the ICESat-2 Science Definition Team (SDT) 2009–2011, 2012-2014 and 2014 to present. Mr. Palm is the lead author of the ICESat-2 atmospheric ATBD and a member of the CALIPSO Science Team, 2013 – present. He was also a member of the ICESat Science Team, 2006-2009. He is the leader of the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS), atmospheric algorithm group and lead author of the GLAS Algorithm Theoretical Basis Document (ATBD) and the GLAS Atmospheric Data Products Validation Plan. Mr. Palm designed and led the GLAS atmospheric validation effort using multi-instrumented, high altitude (NASA ER-2) aircraft. For over 30 years he has developed methods and data analysis software for using airborne and ground-based lidar data to understand the dynamics of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) and lower troposphere.
