Ahmed Al-Durra

Dr Ahmed Al-Durra received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Ohio State University, USA, in 2005, 2007, and 2010 respectively. He conducted his PhD research at the Center for Automotive Research at Ohio State University. He joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, UAE, as an Assistant Professor in 2010, and obtained the PI Research & Scholarship Award for Junior Faculty in 2014. At present, he is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE. His research interests are on the applications of control and estimation theory on power systems stability, micro and smart grids, renewable energy systems and integration, and process control. He has one US patent (No.14/828,966 February 2016), one edited book, nine book chapters, and over 130 scientific articles in top-tier journals and refereed international conference proceedings. He has successfully accomplished and worked on several research projects at international and national levels (around USD $6.5M). He has also supervised/co-supervised over 20 PhD/Master's students. Ahmed is the head of the Energy Systems, Control & Optimization Lab at ADNOC Research & Innovation Center. In addition, he is a Senior Member of IEEE and Vice Chair of the IEEE Control Systems and Power Electronics Joint Societies Chapter – UAE Section. He is an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, and an active reviewer for several top-tier IEEE Transactions and IET Journals.
