Ponnusamy Ponmurugan

Dr. P. Ponmurugan is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Botany at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He has around 20 year of teaching and research experiences. He has published 130 research papers in both National and International journals and filed 17 Indian patents, two UK and four US patents on various aspects in plant and animal Biotechnology studies and Biomedical applications of various plant species. He has two copy rights and authored for 25 books. Total cumulative Impact Factor of paper publication is 90.959, Cumulative H Index is 20, Cumulative i10 Index is 36 and Citation Index is 1536 till now. Two technologies were transferred to industries for commercial exploitations. There were 22 research scholars awarded with Ph.D. degree and 28 research scholars awarded with M.Phil. degree under his able guidance so far. He identified two new Lichen species such as Pyxine punensis and Pyxine yercaudensis collected from Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu. He is a recipient of ‘Summer Research Fellowship’ from Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, ‘Young Scientist Award’ from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai and Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi and Mid-Career Award from University Grant Commission, New Delhi, Government of India. A total of 12 funded projects have been completed by him so far for which financial assistance was obtained from Government of India. He visited 10 foreign countries (Japan, Germany, China, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka) till date with respect to various collaborative research works and attending international conferences.
