Ireneusz Miciuła

University of Szczecin

Ireneusz Miciuła is an assistant professor at the Institute of Economics and Finance, University of Szczecin, Poland. He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications in economics, finance, management, and information technology. Dr. Miciuła has participated in many international scientific conferences. He holds a scholarship from the Human Capital Operational Program and conducts research at the European University Institute, Italy. He is a visiting researcher at several universities in Germany, Czech Republic, Romania, Albania, Greece, and Portugal. He is a member of the Journal of Economics and Public Finance and a reviewer for the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Foundation. He is also a member of the Polish Finance and Banking Association and Polish Economic Society. Dr. Miciuła is an expert at the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the Energy Regulatory Office and a scientific expert at the Foundation for Polish Science.

The development of the cryptocurrency market and the implications for the whole economy and finance for all traders cause a keen interest in this subject. The chapter discusses the functioning of a financial system based on cryptocurrencies and its significance for economies. In this chapter, the development of the global cryptocurrency market was presented and the history of the most popular cryptocurrency, bitcoin, was analyzed. The analysis and the assessment of the state and structure of the Polish cryptocurrencies market were presented on the background of the global cryptocurrency market. Also, we presented the possible development paths for the cryptocurrencies market in Poland and in the world.

Risk Assessment Methodology in Public Financial Institutions

This chapter classifies the risk and fundamental elements necessary to manage it. It presents the individual stages of the procedure and standards of conduct in risk management. In accordance with the EU accession agreement, Poland has developed and implemented a system of financial management and control standards in public finance sector units. This chapter presents the risk assessment tools that can be customized to the needs of a specific organization, including public sector entities. Information about how to manage risk in each EU country are made available because of the desire to show the stability and proper monitoring of the risks in order to fulfil the given tasks. This affects the perception of stability in the country, which has a direct impact on the economic effects.
