Sujit Bhattacharya

Dr. Sujit Kumar Bhattacharya was born on 15th January 1950 in Kolkata, India. After completing his education, he joined the Medical course (MBBS) which he completed in 1975. He obtained MD in Internal Medicine in 1979 and joined the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). His engagement in research spanned for a period of 32 years. His work in acute diarrheal disease is recognized worldwide. He published about 445 papers and 6 book chapters. He was elected to Fellowship of National Academy (FNA).He was fellow of other prestigious academies. He retired in 2006 as Additional Director general of ICMR. He was a member of many national and international agencies including member of the scientific Advisory Group of World health organization. His contribution to Elimination of Visceral Leishmaniasis is internationally recognized. In this field, he published several papers in Lancet and NEJM. His experience in Johns Hopkins for one and half months and one year he served as guest researcher in National Children’s Medical Centre in Tokyo, Japan. He is humble, and experienced researcher and his contributions in research in Acute Diarrhea, Kala-azar and HIV/AIDS will be remembered.
