Subir Rana

Independent Researcher

Dr. Subir Rana has completed one year tenure as a Post Doctoral Associate at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) Bangalore and is currently placed as an independent researcher. Dr. Rana is a sociologist by training and has a Doctorate and M.Phil in Sociology from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi. His doctoral thesis deals with inter-generational sex work of a Denotified Nomadic Tribe (DNT) called Nats in Bihar. Dr. Rana has been a recipient of prestigious national and international fellowships, scholarships, travel grants and honorary positions. He has presented his research papers at national and international forums and has important publications to his credit. Dr. Rana’s work lies at the intersection of sociology and social anthropology, visual arts and development studies and his current research is focused on with developmental issues, neo-protest politics, borderlands, diaspora and migrants, education and skill development, subversive popular cultures and marginal communities that include transients and subalterns.
