Ruiyong Chen

Ruiyong Chen received his B.Sc., B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees from the Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan, P.R. China. He received his Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) in 2011 in physical chemistry from the Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany, on the electrode coatings for electrolytic chlorine production, under supervision of Prof. Rolf Hempelmann. Later on, he joined the Institute of Nanotechnology, Institute for Applied Materials – Energy Storage Systems, Helmholtz Institute Ulm for Electrochemical Energy Storage at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany, working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the groups of Prof. Horst Hahn, Prof. Helmut Ehrenberg on the development of intercalation cathode materials for lithium ion batteries. In 2015, he joined the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) Europe in Saarbrücken as a Senior Researcher working at new electrolytes for redox flow batteries and became project leader in 2016. Currently, he is a habilitation candidate at the Saarland University.
