Phetole Mangena is an instructor of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology at the Department of Biodiversity, University of Limpopo. He received his M.Sc. in Botany in 2015, from the University of Limpopo. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Botany at the University of Limpopo, Turfloop Campus. Mr Mangena’s main research focus is on the Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of soybean (in vivo & in vitro transformation), plant physiology and plant tissue culture. He also studies how plants respond to environmental stresses, with a focus on abiotic water deficit stress and tolerance to drought stress through regulation of the Oryza cystatin-1 gene, especially on legume crop plants.
