Dr Wen-Ping Cao received the B.Eng degree in electrical engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical machines and drives from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK, in 2004. He is currently a Chair Professor of Electrical Power Engineering with Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and also a Marie Curie Fellow with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. His research interests include fault analysis and condition monitoring of electric machines and power electronics for renewable energy.

The development of renewable energy technologies (such as wind, solar, and biomass) has accelerated the establishment of a low-carbon society.
