P Susthitha Menon was born in Perak, Malaysia, in 1975. She completed her B. Eng. degree at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi, Malaysia specializing in Electric, Electronics and System Engineering in 1999 under the sponsorship of Intel (M) Sdn Bhd. Then, she worked at Intel Malaysia until 2002 as a Product Engineer for mobile modules and motherboard systems. During her tenure at Intel, she held a temporary position in Intel Oregon, USA to undertake a 6-month new product transfer training in 1999. In 2005, she completed her M.Sc. degree specializing in Microelectronics at UKM where she developed a silicon lateral p-i-n photodiode (LPP) under the sponsorship of the National Science Fellowship (NSF) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia. She obtained her PhD degree (with distinction) in Microengineering and Nanoelectronics in the year 2008 where her thesis is entitled “Development of an interdigitated In0.53Ga0.47As lateral p-i-n photodiode”. Upon completion of her PhD, she became a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Micro-Engineering & Nanoelectronics (IMEN), UKM and worked on the project called “Development of Long-Wavelength Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (LW-VCSEL)”. She was appointed as a research fellow at IMEN, UKM in January, 2009. Dr Susthitha is a member of a few professional organizations such as the IEEE, OSA and SPIE. She is also currently an elected member of the IEEE Electron Devices Society(EDS) Malaysian Chapter. At this moment, she has about 40 publications to her credit which comprises of peer-reviewed international journals and proceedings. Her current research interests include fiber and microring resonators, LW-VCSELs, nanophotonics, III-V materials, p-i-n photodiodes and optical receivers.
