Professor Ricardo A. Ramirez-Mendoza received his PhD degree in Automation and Production from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France (1997) and his Master’s Degree in Control Engineering from the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, Mexico (1991. The Mexican government, through its National System of Researches (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) has recognized to Prof. Ramirez-Mendoza as a Research Professor in engineering due to his work at the national and international level. He has published over 200 papers in refereed journals, conferences, books, chapters and patents and has mentored over 40 graduate students, post-docs, research engineers and research scientists who occupy leading positions in academia and industry. Professor Ramirez-Mendoza was the Founder and Director of the Autotronics Research Chair at Center for Innovation in Design and Technology. He was also the Chairman of the Mechatronics, Mechanics and Design Area. He has been a Chair, invited speaker, panel member, organizer of special sessions, and a program committee member of international conferences. Professor Ramirez-Mendoza is a member, among others, of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). He served as a member of the Nuevo Leon State Board for Scientific and Technology Development Plan: “Monterrey, City of Knowledge”. He was also founder member of Aerospace Cluster of the Nuevo Leon State. Professor Ramirez-Mendoza is strongly interested in promoting Economic Development based on Industrial Clusters of High-Tech Industries such as Aerospace and Automotive to develop capabilities for suppliers (tiers) to increase its competitiveness and attractiveness of regions.
