Ian Victor Silva

University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio

Currently Associate Professor III in Dept. Morphology of the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (CCS / UFES) where he leads the Laboratory of Cell Biology of Aging (LBCE). Among the Research Lines developed in the LBCE, those related to Diseases Associated with Aging of Women, such as breast, ovarian and uterine cancers, stand out; Alzheimer's disease; obesity and osteoporosis. These projects - based on methods of Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Imaginology and Biochemistry - use a Multidisciplinary approach, in studies with patients, in animal models (transgenic and Knock-out) and cells in culture. These projects always aim at probable biotechnological applications to these diseases, seeking to identify diagnostic, risk and / or prognostic biomarkers of these diseases. Over the years, I have already led several MSc and PhD students from PPGBiotecnologia - (RENORBIO / UFES), many of them already professionally allocated in the Biopharmaceutical Industry (where I highlight two students who are currently director of Quality in Large Enterprises and Clinical Fisheries of a respected Research Institute engaged in Clinical Trials for Osteoporosis) and in Higher Education at IFES and Private Institutes. In addition to working at Põs Graduação stricto sensu, oriento and I have already advised dozens of students of Scientific Initiation and Specialization in Cellular Biology and Clinical Cytology and Basic and Clinical Pharmacology at UFES, where I highlight two former orientandas who are now Federal Police Experts. I maintain scientific collaborations with researchers from Brazilian Institutions (INCa, UFRJ, UFSCar, UFRN, UNESP) and foreign institutions (Technion, La Sabana University, The Johns Hopkins University and UTHSCSA). I act as an evaluator of Research Projects in national institutions (RENORBIO, DECIT-SUS, FAPDF, FAPES) and international (Alzheimer's Association). I was a Full Member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of CCS (2007-2010) and the Internal Committee for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (PIBIC, 2004 to 2009) of UFES. I was Coordinator of PPGBiotec of UFES (between 2007 and 2009) and State Representative in the State of Espirito Santo of the Northeast Network of Biotechnology (RENORBIO - between 2007 and 2010). The words most found in your CV are: aging, cell and molecular biology, estrogen receptor, biomarkers, ApoE and biotechnology in health
