Piet Jooste

Professor Piet Jooste obtained his B.Sc. Agric degree at Stellenbosch University, majoring in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry. He obtained his MSc and Ph.D degrees in Food Microbiology at the University of the Orange Free State, South Africa. He served on the lecturing staff of the University of the Orange Free State for 25 years, ten years of which as Professor and Head of the Department of Food Science. He was appointed as Deputy Director of the Animal Nutrition and Products Institute and Head of the Department of Animal Products and Food Security at ARC-Irene from 1998 to 2003. On 1 April 2003 he accepted the position of Research Professor at Technikon Pretoria (now Tshwane University of Technology) in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology. He has published more than 75 articles in accredited scientific journals and has made oral and poster presentations at National and International Scientific meetings on more than 115 occasions. He was supervisor or co-supervisor of 25 successful M.Sc dissertations and 7 PhD theses.. He is at present supervisor or co-supervisor of 4 PhD/DTech and 3 MTech studies that are in progress.
