Lakshmi Narayana Deepak Kallepalli

Dr. Lakshmi Narayana Deepak Kallepalli is currently working jointly at National Research Council (NRC), and Department of Physics, University of Ottawa; both located in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada. He received his BSc Hons in Physics and MSc in Physics with specialization in Photonics from Sri Sathya Sai University, Prasanthinilayam in India in 2002 and 2004 respectively. He completed his PhD on femtosecond laser writing in polymers and crystals in School of Physics, University of Hyderabad, India in 2011. He carried out his postdoctoral studies at LP3 laboratory, Marseille, France on Photonic nanojets using microspheres till Oct. 2013 prior to joining in Department of physics, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada till Oct. 2016. Currently, he is working jointly at NRC, and University of Ottawa, Canada. He has published 23 research articles in internationally reputed journals, 1 book, 1 book chapter, and 9 conference proceedings. His areas of interest include laser-matter interaction, silicon photonics, photonic nanojet lithography, and molecular spectroscopy. He also has expertise in simulations using MATLAB, Python, and knowledge in machine learning.

This book is a collection of five original research articles on silicon photonics. The discussed issues are organized into two parts. Part 1 describes the science behind the silicon photonics emphasizing the role of photonic circuits on silicon, and Part 2 describes applications in waveguide and optical transmissions. This book should be of interest to academic researchers and engineers. The chapters included are fundamental science and applications of silicon photonics, optical properties of thin nanocrystalline silicon films, microporous silicon in gas sensing, Mach-Zehnder interferometer cell-based silicon waveguide, experimental study of porous silicon films, and integrated optical switches and their applications.
