Sergio Curilef is a full professor in the Physics Department, Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN), Antofagasta, Chile. He obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF)-RJ, Brazil, in July 1997. His main research areas are statistical physics and quantum mechanics of systems with long-range interactions, particles in the magnetic field, and nonlinear diffusion. He has recently developed research on complex systems and applications to science and engineering. He is the principal investigator in several research projects, and he did a sabbatical year at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2007. Dr. Curilef has also created undergraduate and postgraduate programs in physics at his university, and he is currently an academic counselor of the UCN Higher Council.
