Dr. King received his Ph.D. in Biomechanics from Wayne State University in 1966. He is presently a Distinguished Professor and Chair of Biomedical Engineering at Wayne State. He is also an adjunct professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wayne State University. His major areas of research are trauma biomechanics and low back pain. He has studied injury response, tolerance to impact and mechanisms of injury to many body regions from head to toe, due to blunt impact and blast overpressure, including many computer models simulating head impact, side impact, spinal response to vertical acceleration and knee impact. He has also studied the mechanisms of brain injury, spinal injury, knee, ankle and foot injury. His present interests are in head injury due to blast. He has received research support from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Departments of Transportation and Defense and from the automotive industry.
