Dr. Joceli Mayer graduated in electrical engineering from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, in 1998. He received a master\'s degree in Electrical Engineering from UFSC in 1991, and a master’s degree in Computer Engineering and a DPhil from the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC), USA, in 1998 and 1999, respectively. He received the Best Student Paper Award from the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing and IBM in 2006 and became an IEEE senior member in 2012. Currently, Dr. Mayer is a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at UFSC. He has published more than 100 articles in conferences and periodicals, authored two books and two chapters, and advised undergraduate and graduate students on research projects. He has developed and supervised projects on super-resolution, speech compression, VOIP systems, image processing, digital watermarking, hardcopy document authentication, and assistive technology applications for hearing, speech, and mobility-disabled people with the Internet of Things and speech recognition technologies. His research has been supported by industry and government agencies including FINEP, CNPq, Hewlett Packard, and Intelbras, among others.
