Dimitrios E. Ventzas received the B.Sc. degree from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, Electrical Eng Dpt in 1979 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Control and Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK, in 1980 and 1983, respectively, where he worked as a Research Assistant in multiphase flow. Prior to joining Higher Education, in 1987, the first three years of his carrier, he served as a full-time Network, System, Control and Instrument Engineer of DCS at HARSA SA and he joined the Biomedical Engineering Department at TEI of Athens, in 1987, as Biomedical Eng Professor. He served as Chairman of the department from 1990 through 1992. He has been Control and Instrumentation Professor at TEI of Lamia, Electronics Dpt from 1993 through 2001, and he is currently Professor of Control and Digital Signal and Image Processing in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering Dpt at TEI of Larissa. He taught at postgraduate courses of Mechanical Eng and Agricultural Eng at University of Thessaly and Image Processing at TEI Larissa MSc in Computer Science. He cofounded the Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory at TEI of Athens, the Control Laboratory at TEI of Lamia and the Signals and Systems Laboratory at TEI of Larissa. Under his direction, a fully automated by DCS chemical multiple factory at HARSA SA Athens was installed, tested and started-up. He worked on Image restoration of old documents, agricultural and biomedical applications and on computer vision system for automatically reading the license plate on vehicles. He is a frequent consultant to industry and government in the areas of Informatics and Biomedical Eng. His academic honours for work in these fields include the 1980 Schilizzi Foundation, UK and the 1983 SERC, UK. He is the author or co-author of over 100 technical articles in international Journals / Conferences with over 50 citations (cited in many patents and listed in the national and international biographical citations), three edited books, and five textbooks in the fields of control, signal processing, instrumentation, biomedical engineering and robotics. His textbooks were used in many technical Universities and schools nationally. He is member of editorial boards assistant editor, reviewer, referee, publicity manager, division officer and scientific committee of symposia, conferences journals and virtual magazines on information and communications technologies, 2011, Elsevier Information Fusion, 2009, of IEEE Computer Society, 1993-95, Institute of Measurement & Control, London, 1987, Liquids Handling, 1992, ISA Divisions, 1993, IJCSET 2011, ΙΑSTED, IEEE, WSEAS, IeJEMTA, etc. He was a member of several professional societies, including IEE, IEEE, InstMC, ISA and Technical Chambers. He is also a Senior ISA. His professional experiences range from entrepreneurial to the more traditional academic, consulting, governmental and industrial pursuits. Most recently, he cooperates with high technology companies specializing in the development of computer systems for medical and industrial measurements. He was responsible for the development of many quantitative image analysis and autonomous decision making products. As a researcher, he has been involved in the development of a number of special-purpose digital processors for a variety of industrial applications. He is development manager of the image processing group in Traffic Control for Archimedes III. His professional interests include 2D image processing software tools in Sensors Design and a broad range of scientific and engineering applications including Artificial Intelligence. He taught graduate and senior-level classes in digital image processing, computer and robotics vision, pattern recognition and filter design and he performed research in the area of image steganography.
