Douglas Harris

Dr. Harris is chairman and principal scientist of Anacapa Sciences, Inc., a company he formed in 1969 to improve human performance in complex systems and organizations. He is a past president of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, a past chair of the National Research Council (NRC) Committee on Human Factors and past chair of the NRC Panel on Soldier Systems. He was an author of the first volume of the Wiley Series in Human Factors (Human Factors and Quality Assurance) and was chair of the NRC Panel on Organizational Linkages editing the resulting book Organizational Linkages: Understanding the Productivity Paradox published by the National Academies Press. He completed his BS degree at Iowa State University under a Navy scholarship, and served as a gunnery officer aboard a destroyer and as operations and training officer of an underwater demolition (SEAL) team. He then completed MS and PhD degrees at Purdue University under a Purdue Research Foundation fellowship.
