Stanford University Identifies Top 2% Scientists, Over 1,000 are IntechOpen Authors and Editors

22 January 2021

A new study led by scientists from Stanford University recently published a comprehensive list that identified the top 2% of scientists worldwide. After an initial review, we are proud to say that IntechOpen authors and editors make up over 1,000 of these top scientists in the world!

The list, composed of over 100,000 top scientists, was created by Prof. Ioannidis and his research team to provide a complete look at citation metrics. According to Prof. Ioannidis in the study published by PLoS Biology, this is "...the first classification that systematically ranks all the most-cited scientists in each scientific field to a sufficient ranking depth."

Citation metrics are incredibly important for scientists and are often used as indicators to determine the relevance and importance of a given research topic. The research team used common citation indicators, including H-index, co-authorship, and a composite indicator for career-long impact to create the dataset.

For us, this list represents more unbiased evidence from a credible external source as to the quality of research published by IntechOpen. Could this be the new method used to calculate citations? We shall see, but for now, we are happy to be able to call so many of these great scientific minds our own.

Stay tuned! We are currently working on discovering even more bright minds within our community!
