Open Science, Open Minds, Open Citations - IntechOpen Supports I4OC

12 July 2017

Citations are incredibly important for researchers, especially in terms of visibility and connectivity. They help track significant developments in any given field and demonstrate impact and reach.

IntechOpen’s dedication in the promotion of free access to scientific content is more than a decade strong, and we have worked hard to show how Open Access is beneficial not only at a global level, but for each researcher individually.

This is why, IntechOpen is proud to announce its support of the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC) and happy to be included on the list of publishers who have chosen to deposit and open up citation data as of March 30, 2017.

The I4OC is a collaboration between scholarly publishers and researchers to promote the unrestricted availability of scholarly citation data - data that is structured, separable, and of course, open.

Structured means the data representing each publication and each citation instance are expressed in common, machine-readable formats, and that these data can be accessed programmatically. Separable means the citation instances can be accessed and analyzed without the need to access the source bibliographic products (such as journal articles and books) in which the citations are created. Open means the data are freely accessible and reusable.

In support of the Initiative, IntechOpen has already begun depositing its reference lists in order to link scholarly citation data and facilitate improved citation analysis. IntechOpen authors and editors will now more easily be able to see exactly how their research is performing within the scientific community.

We are happy to support this initiative and increase the discoverability and dissemination of published content for our authors and editors.
