IntechOpen joins Crossref's Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) to Boost the Discovery of Research

05 October 2020

I4OA calls on all scholarly publishers to open the abstracts of their publications, and specifically to distribute them through Crossref, to facilitate large-scale access and promote discovery of critical research.

The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) was launched at the online conference of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) on September 24th.

IntechOpen, Frontiers, Geological Society of London, De Gruyter, Hindawi, SAGE, and MIT Press are just some of the names of the 40 publishers who have already agreed to support the initiative by making their abstracts openly available. I4OA is also supported by a large number of research funders, libraries and library associations, infrastructure providers, and open science organizations.

Abstracts summarize the content of scholarly publications, and by making them openly available will help academic publishers to maximize the visibility and reach of their journals and books. On the other hand, open abstracts make it easier for scholars to discover, read, and cite these publications.

We are glad to be among the first signatories of this initiative further advocating and supporting institutional and publishing industry ambitions for open metadata.
