IntechOpen Donated Books to Book Aid International, Supporting Progress and Equity in Research and Education

03 November 2022

IntechOpen is pleased to announce that we have recently donated books to Book Aid International, UK’s leading international book donation and library support charity.

The books donated bring research in science, technology, and medicine, representing the viewpoints of world-renowned scientists who have made significant contributions to their fields, including authors who have won or were nominated for the Nobel Prize and the most cited authors worldwide.

Even though we are the first native publisher of Open Access books, with +6,000 OA books available online to read, share and download for free, we were driven by demand to make our books available in print. Books donated to the Book Aid represent a selection of print-on-demand sample copies and office copies collected over the years.

According to Alison Tweed, Chief Executive at Book Aid, the organisation focuses its work on low-income countries in Africa and beyond, often in areas where conflict has disrupted education or where university faculties have few or no new books. “We are extremely proud to collaborate with IntechOpen, who share our belief that information, knowledge and research should be accessible to everyone. Together, we look forward to providing brand new books to hospitals, universities and public libraries around the world, building the next generation of professionals and change makers.”

Dr. Sara Uhac, Chief Executive Officer at IntechOpen added that “This initiative is of great importance to IntechOpen because, in the spirit of making knowledge available to all, it allows our publications to be shared with researchers and professionals living in countries with reduced access to online resources. With Book Aid International's long history and commitment to sharing the power of books to advance progress and promote equity, this initiative is a natural fit for us. We hope to keep supporting Book Aid International in the years to come.”
