An interpersonal relationship takes many forms and are influenced by many factors. Recently social distancing, fueled by the COVID 19 pandemic, has demonstrated the importance of interpersonal relationships as new tools are being used to try and maintain connections. Relationships have been forged from early in human history as a way to survive, a way to ensure that the population continues and as a way for emotional connection and support. At times, though, interpersonal relationships can become dangerous and destructive, such as when power differentials within the relationship are abused or threats/manipulation are used to maintain the relationship. Interpersonal relationships can also evolve and change over a lifetime, such as when children have to negotiate new relationships with their parents as they move from childhood, through adolescence, to adult, and sometimes to caregiver.

Can we learn tools to improve interpersonal relationships? How do certain communication or conflict resolution styles affect interpersonal relationships? How have interpersonal relationships been affected by the internet and other forms of technology? There are many questions that we can ask about interpersonal relationships and all topics will be considered. The goal of this book is to bring new insights into the nature of interpersonal relationships in an ever-changing world.
