"Open Access Books - The New Model" Keynote Presentation at STM's Annual Frankfurt Conference
October 20, 2016
InTechOpen's Managing Director, Sara Uhač, gave a keynote presentation at STM’s Annual Frankfurt Conference this past Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
The presentation titled “Open Access Books - The New Model,” not only provided an overview of InTechOpen books, authors, editors, and readers, but also shared with the audience a little bit more about InTechOpen: past, present and future.
The Open Access publishing model and the InTechOpen Book, a product that we pioneered, build on concepts such as a greater focus on the dissemination of research and proliferation of knowledge while supporting our mission to give researchers an opportunity to make a greater impact within the scientific community. This year's conference hosted a total of 420 attendants and together with the previously announced speakers featured Carlos Moedas, the European Commissioner for Research Science and Innovation. Mr. Moedas discussed the Open Access agenda of the European Union and stressed the importance of Open Access:
“Open access contributes to scientific excellence and integrity. It opens up research results to wider analysis. It allows research results to be reused for new discoveries. And it enables the multi-disciplinary research that is needed to solve global 21st century problems. Open access connects science with society. It allows the public to engage with research. To go behind the headlines. And look at the scientific evidence. And it enables policy makers to draw on innovative solutions to societal challenges.”
We couldn’t agree more.
It was an honor being invited to speak at such an important industry event and talk about our experience as a fully Open Access book publisher and how publishing in Open Access is shaping the STM industry.
