InTech’s Regional Research Spotlight Series focuses on highlighting fruitful and successful collaborations developed by our team with particular countries and its notable scientists, research institutions and companies actively involved in the field of Science, Technology and Medicine (STM).

While Japan is most known for contributions to the electronics industry, Japanese researchers have been at the forefront of scientific research, technology, machinery, and medical research having been awarded the most Nobel Prizes in Asia.

We have been collaborating with Japanese based researchers since 2004, working with some of the top universities in Japan. Our Japanese authors have participated in 1,555 books, accounting for 66% of InTech’s publications.

Collaboration with Japanese Researchers

From 2004 and 2010 we worked with 136 authors based in Japan, and from 2011 and 2016 that number increased to 4,310 authors, with a total of 2,822 chapters published and more than 70 Book Editors. In addition to this significant increase in collaborations, we have had the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned researchers coming from Japan.

Hiroshi Ishiguro - Innovatory Roboticist

In 2012, InTech’s International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems organized InTeract, an event to showcase the latest developments in the research area of Human Robotics Interaction (HRI).

The event featured worldwide renowned roboticist, Japan’s foremost android scientist, and InTech author, Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, from the University of Osaka.

One of the most well known names in Robotics, he is the recipient of numerous academic accolades, and most recently received the Prize for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), in April of 2015.

Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, is the director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, Department of Systems Innovation at Osaka University, and is known for his commitment and achievements in humanoid Robotics. Professor Ishiguro’s efforts focus on the design and engineering of humanoid robots replicating human-like appearances and behaviors. His Geminoid HI-1 Android, built in his likeness, is one of the greatest examples of a humanoid android ever built.

Professor Ishiguro is a true pioneer in android science and robotics research, and it was a privilege to host him and listen to him speak about his research at the InTeract event. 

Junji Kido - Among World's Top 1% Highly Cited Authors

InTech collaborator, Junji Kido, has made Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers list for 2015, meaning he is in the top 1% highly cited researchers in the world. The list is released annually to recognize the leading researchers in the field of sciences and social sciences.

Junji Kido from Yamagata University, co-authored Organic Light Emitting Diode - Material, Process and Devices from “Organic Field-Effect Transistors Using Hetero-Layered Structure with OLED Materials” published in 2011. The chapter introduced a new concept of hetero-layered high-performance organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) to improve general performance of OFETs without using the conventional surface treatment methods.
