Gonzalo Seisdedos Rodriguez is a postdoc research associate at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Materials Synthesis and Applications group. Gonzalo obtained his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Florida International University (Miami, USA), where he also obtained his master’s degree and Ph.D. in materials science and engineering. At the beginning of his graduate studies, he focused his research on the effect of substrate contamination in adhesive bonds of reinforced carbon fiber composites for aerospace applications. He then continued with the non-destructive evaluation of the curing process of epoxy adhesives using magneto-electric nanoparticles. He now focuses his research on the in-situ, non-destructive evaluation of polymeric materials using ultrasonics to investigate how the manufacturing parameters affect the cure kinetics and final properties of the polymers. This novel evaluation method can help optimize the design and tailoring process of polymers and can also be used during manufacturing for quality control, which will help reduce plastic waste in an R&D and manufacturing setting.
